Create a separate compund roof that contains the soffit material at the bottom side and place it where the main roof stops at the wall plane then use join geometry to join the main roof and the overhang roof. Here is a little known method that can be used to create a soffit that follows the falls of the gable roof or similar. Select the original soffit and edit the sketch. Use a roof by extrusion draw sketch lines at the gable end specify depth of roof equal to the overhang.

Change the slope angle of the roof. Use sloped edges or a slope arrow on a roof to create sloped roof elements. Sloped edges on a roof sketch line create a sloped roof. This video demonstrates the following.

Revit roof slope can seem complicated at first glance but by learning a few critical features you can create any roof shape you desire. Whether you want a double gable roof with 6 pyramid shaped dormers or a simple gambrel roof the basics remain the same. Define a sloped edge to a sketch line. In this video i quickly copied the first floor studs and top plates to the second floor level.

Remove the section of the sketch that involved the gable end of the roof make sure the boundaries remain as closed loops. Use a slope arrow to define the slope. Last i added a gable roof into the model.
